Community Coordinator

The club is currently looking to add to our community team with a part-time community coordinator, with a background in education. Primarily responsible for planning and delivering the ‘Read Like a Demon’ program, the club’s literacy program in schools, and introducing this program to additional schools in line with the club’s fan development objectives. The community coordinator will also be responsible for managing content on the club’s “Deezone” website for junior supporters, and overseeing the club’s work experience program. 

Key Areas of Responsibility

- Manage the club’s literacy program “Read Like a Demon” 

  • Coordinate and deliver the Read Like A Demon literacy program
  • Develop teacher’s resources for those at schools participating in the Read Like a Demon program
  • Develop activities for the club’s players to deliver in classrooms
  • Grow the Read Like a Demon literacy program, introducing it to new schools, in line with the club’s fan engagement strategies
  • Coordinate school visits in the City of Casey and around Melbourne, including scheduling player appearances
  • Service key relationships with the club’s partners, in particular the relationship with Monash University and the City of Casey
  • Plan and conduct information sessions for partners of the club’s community programs
  • Oversee administration tasks in relation to delivering school programs, including ordering merchandise and promotional items
  • Analyse, review and report on the effectiveness of the Read Like a Demon program

- Develop kids content and assist with online fan engagement 

  • Develop and deliver a content plan to engage with children that encourages fan development and fan retention
  • Create content for the Club’s Kids Website deezone.com.au, the Read Like a Demon pages of the website, and the monthly Deezone email newsletter
  • Assist the Digital Communications team and drive database capture mechanisms via deezone.com.au
  • Continue to build the club’s community presence across social media platforms

- Manage the Club’s Work Experience Program

  • Administrative duties for the work experience program (35 students over 2 weeks) including admission forms, selection, scheduling of activities and follow up of feedback forms.
  • Liaise with the students, their schools and parents to complete the program successfully

- Contribute to the Community team

  • Maintain positive relationships with AFL and key stakeholders
  • Provide an internal service to support the Club’s fan engagement and growth objectives
  • Assist with the delivery of the Club’s other community objectives, including relationships with grassroots football clubs, charities and partnerships
  • Promote the club’s brand
  • Attend key events as required

Competencies, Qualifications, Experience and Key Attributes

  • Tertiary qualification in Education or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated experience in developing partnerships with external corporate, community and/or government bodies preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing school programs/community initiatives within sport, community or charity environments
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including task and budget management and follow through
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to achieving results
  • Attention to detail with strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Computer skills, including an intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Presentation skills with the ability to lead and facilitate events meetings and presentations
  • An interest in sport and recreation
  • Current driver’s license and vehicle
