SCOTT Pendlebury's foot injury is not as bad as first thought and the Collingwood captain is a chance to play against the Western Bulldogs on Friday night.
However, the Magpies can add small forwards Alex Fasolo and Tim Broomhead to a lengthy list of players already ruled out for the season with the pair set for shoulder surgery on Monday.
Magpies football boss Neil Balme said a scan on Pendlebury's foot, which he injured in Friday night's game against Richmond, came up all clear.
Match preview: Western Bulldogs v Collingwood
"We had a scan straight away and fortunately there were no cracks, no fractures or no great problems," Balme told the club's website.
"He was a little bit sore, but he was a reasonable chance to get up this week. He'll need to train, but he's certainly a short-term test."
Promising forward Darcy Moore also faces a fitness test ahead of the game against the Bulldogs.
"He's running pretty well and some decent chance for this week. He'll need to train well and be tested. We won't take any risk with him," Balme said.
Fasolo has been dealing with a troublesome shoulder for a number of weeks and the injury forced the dangerous forward out of the club's round 17 clash against Adelaide.
He returned for the game against North Melbourne in round 18 but was again sore and failed a fitness test before Friday night's game against the Tigers.
Broomhead saw a shoulder specialist last Thursday and the recommendation was for him to have surgery to fix an underlying problem in his shoulder.
"Both of those boys will miss the rest of the year. They have slightly different conditions, but both were in a situation where they couldn’t play anymore," Balme said.
The shoulder injury continues a frustrating season for Broomhead, pick No.20 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft, who was sidelined for seven weeks with an ankle injury after the club's round seven game against Carlton.
Defender Ben Sinclair is a chance to return this week but will have to prove his fitness on the training track. Sinclair has not played since suffering his fourth concussion of the season against North Melbourne in round 18.
"We're pretty confident that he’ll be able to train this week. He’s having some more tests this week and we'll see how he goes," Balme said.
"Naturally, he’ll need to train and he’ll need to feel well with the concussion. We’re quite conservative. He’ll need to be 100 per cent and really feel like playing before we pick him. We’re confident that he’ll give himself a chance."
Jamie Elliott (back), Tom Langdon (knee), Jackson Ramsay (knee), Matt Scharenberg (knee) and Dane Swan (foot) are the other Magpie players to be ruled out for the rest of the season.
