COLLINGWOOD remains hopeful of securing Chris Mayne, but says it doesn't have a "rock-solid commitment" from the Fremantle forward.
The lucrative deal to bring the 27-year-old across to the Magpies has been reported to be worth up to $2 million for four years.
But Collingwood list manager Derek Hine told NAB AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday morning further talks needed to take place before the deal could be completed for the unrestricted free agent.
"We're in the process of working through things with Chris and his management," Hine said.
"We haven't had a rock-solid commitment just yet, but we're hopeful that's going to happen.
"The tenure and the remuneration is still in discussion."
Dockers general manager of list management Brad Lloyd said on Monday he expected Mayne to accept a deal with the Magpies.
"It’s our understanding he will accept a free agency opportunity, so we’re just waiting to get any detail on that one," Lloyd said.
The Dockers will likely receive a second-round draft pick as compensation.
The Magpies will be one of the busiest clubs in the trade period having already secured North Melbourne veteran Daniel Wells for the next three years.
Brisbane Lions captain Tom Rockliff has been linked to the Magpies but Hine said there was little chance the Lions skipper would end up at the club.
"Our list management (team), we meet once a week, sometimes twice a week, and there's a whole range of players come up, and Tom's been one of those players," Hine said.
"The likelihood of Tom coming here would be pretty remote, I would have thought.
"Without putting percentages on it, I would say it would be unlikely."
Rockliff has another year to run on his contract with the Lions, and he will become a free agent at the end of 2017.
Hine expected deals to send key forward Travis Cloke to the Bulldogs and to acquire Greater Western Sydney youngster Will Hoskin-Elliott would be completed by the end of the week.
"We would certainly like to bring Will in, he certainly fits that profile that we like," Hine said.
"As with a few of the boys up there (at the Giants), he's been starved of opportunities.
"We'd be keen to bring him in, but there's a fair bit to play out on that one."
Ruck Jarrod Witts is in discussions with Gold Coast while defender Jack Frost has a three-year deal on the table from the Brisbane Lions.
The Magpies are yet to offer Marley Williams a contract for next year.
