HAWTHORN premiership star Shane Crawford has revealed Sam Mitchell asked him to be part of his Brownlow Medal ceremony.
Crawford, who won the League's best and fairest award in 1999, will present West Coast recruit Mitchell with the 2012 Brownlow Medal on Tuesday.
Richmond's Trent Cotchin will have his medal presented by 1971 medallist Ian Stewart.
The retrospective awarding of the 2012 Brownlow Medal, after original winner Jobe Watson relinquished his title in the wake of his doping ban being upheld by a Swiss court, will be held in Melbourne's Docklands, beginning at 12.15pm AEDT.
Mitchell called former teammate Crawford a few weeks ago to ask whether he would be available to present the medal to him.
"I said, absolutely," Crawford told SEN radio.
"The way I look at it, Sam Mitchell has been an unbelievable player. I think he has been an inspirational story. He was doubted early on, and was told he wasn't good enough in a lot of areas.
"To have the career he's had is quite incredible. I'm really looking forward to giving him his Brownlow Medal, which he deserves."
Cotchin and Mitchell have invited a small number of family and friends to Tuesday's ceremony.
"They deserve to be Brownlow medallists and they certainly deserve their day in the sun," Crawford said.
"I'm sure the players will really enjoy getting the Brownlow Medal and I think it's going to be a nice little occasion where they get to share it with family and friends.
"I think it's a nice day for the players to just have some time with the people they respect.
"It'll be a great day to celebrate two amazing players."
Mitchell and Cotchin were officially named joint 2012 Brownlow medallists last month after Watson said he would hand back the award.
