NORTH Melbourne youngster Kayne Turner has signed a two-year contract extension to remain at the club until the end of 2018.
Turner, 20, has had a regrettable 2016. He suffered a serious hamstring injury in round six before he incurred a serious drink driving charge in May.
He was suspended by the club for four matches, to be served once he had finished the rehabilitation on his hamstring.
Turner told Fairfax that he was grateful to re-sign with the club.
"I was probably a bit nervous after everything that's gone on this year," Turner said.
"But the club's shown a lot of trust in me and I couldn't be happier to be here for the next couple of years."
The youngster said the drink driving incident was the "biggest mistake" of his life and he was thankful he didn't hurt anyone.
Turner has completed his rehab and is set to be available soon.
"I've got the countdown clock going at the moment and hopefully everything keeps going well," Turner said.
"But I'm feeling good at the moment and I should be playing next week or the one after that."
Turner has played 21 games in three seasons, including five finals, after being recruited with pick No.25 in the 2014 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
