MELBOURNE remains hopeful Angus Brayshaw's injury is not too serious with results from scans expected on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old injured his knee in the opening seconds of the NAB Challenge game against Port Adelaide at Unley Oval on Saturday.
Brayshaw sat on the sidelines for the rest of the game, returning to the bench on crutches as a precaution.
Melbourne coach-in-waiting Simon Goodwin said after the game the injury looked to be a "minor medial" but he would be assessed during the week.
Meanwhile Geelong is understood to be waiting for swelling on mature-aged recruit Sam Menegola's knee to subside before making a diagnosis on the injury.
The 23-year-old suffered the injury to his left knee in the second quarter of Friday night's game against Collingwood and left the ground immediately.
The early prognosis on the night was that Menegola had injured his meniscus.
Menegola was playing his first game for Geelong after being drafted at pick No.66 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft.
He played in a premiership with Subiaco last season after spending the previous four seasons on Fremantle and Hawthorn's rookie list.
Angus Brayshaw was assisted from the ground within the first minute of play after suffering a leg injury.
