ANTHONY Morabito's career with Fremantle is over after the Dockers delisted the 24-year-old on Tuesday following his latest injury setback.

Morabito tore his right quad on Sunday playing for Peel Thunder in a WAFL elimination final against East Perth.

The injury will require surgery in Melbourne this week.

Fremantle football manager Chris Bond told Morabito on Tuesday he would not receive a contract extension.

"Unfortunately, we have advised Anthony today that we will not be extending his contract," Bond told fremantlefc.com.au.

"On behalf of the club and all Fremantle members and supporters, we thank Anthony for his contribution to the club on and off the field and wish him all the best for the future."

Morabito thanked the club for its support of him over an injury-ravaged seven-year period at Fremantle.

"Thank you to the Fremantle Football Club for awarding me the opportunity to pursue my AFL dream," Morabito said.

"The ongoing support I received from the club, particularly when faced with difficulty and injury, will be appreciated forever.

"Despite unfortunate setbacks, I am proud to have remained driven and passionate throughout this chapter of my career and am excited for what the future may bring."

Morabito finishes his time at Fremantle having played just 26 games after he was drafted with pick No.4 in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft.

He had a stunning debut season in 2010 playing 23 games, averaging 13 disposals and kicking 13 goals. He earned a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination and played in two finals.

But he suffered three successive anterior cruciate ligament injuries in his left knee between 2011 and 2013 that required three separate reconstructions.

The only football he played in that period was seven WAFL league games and one reserves game for Peel Thunder in 2012.

He returned to full fitness in 2014 and returned to AFL level for the first time in 1394 days when he faced Melbourne in Darwin.

He played three matches that year for the Dockers but suffered another knee issue in September.

His 2015 season was plagued by ongoing knee soreness, which forced him to sit out the entire year and head overseas for a break.

He was delisted at the end of 2015 but was re-drafted as a rookie on a one-year contract.

Morabito had an outstanding pre-season but unfortunately tore his hamstring in February.

He returned to play 14 WAFL matches this year but was sidelined by further hamstring and ankle injuries before tearing his quad on Sunday.
