ST KILDA has swooped to snare young Brisbane midfielder Sam Marshall with the trade confirmed on Friday.

The Saints have sent their first round pick in 2027 north, with Marshall and this year's pick 39 (which has since become No.41) heading to Moorabbin.

AFL.com.au's Josh Gabelich confirmed the deal has been lodged with the League on a busy day, well in advance of the Trade Period's official deadline day next Wednesday.

Marshall originally joined Brisbane through the 2024 draft when the club matched a pick at number 25 for its Academy product.

He played 11 senior games in his first season culminating in being a member of the Lions’ 2025 premiership-winning side.

However, opportunities dried up this year, with Marshall managing just two outings at AFL level.

"Sam has been a valued member of our football program and will always be a Brisbane Lions premiership player," Brisbane's general manager football Danny Daly said on Friday.

"While it is always difficult to farewell a player, this trade provides Sam with a new opportunity at St Kilda and allows us to significantly strengthen our position in the 2027 draft.

"On behalf of the club, we would like to thank Sam and his family for their contribution and wish them all the best for the future."

The Saints' general manager of football Lenny Hayes welcomed Marshall to Moorabbin in a move the club hopes will add depth to its midfield.

"While still early in his career, Sam has already shown exciting potential through the midfield in a strong Brisbane side," Hayes said.

"He's a classy young player with a strong work rate and plenty of upside.

"We look forward to welcoming Sam to the Saints and seeing what he can bring to our side next season."
