FORMER Carlton veteran Zac Williams has announced his retirement from the AFL via social media on Sunday, declaring "after 14 years it's all said and done".

A fractured larynx sustained in the VFL this year restricted the 32-year-old to just nine matches in 2026, for a career total of 183 across 14 seasons at the Blues and Greater Western Sydney.

Williams was a member of the Giants' Academy from age 15 but wasn't originally selected after nominating for the 2012 draft.

Eventually taken by the Giants with pick 54 in the Rookie Draft at the end of 2012, Williams was handed a debut in round five that year.

He made an immediate impact and went on to play 11 games in 2013, securing a Rising Star nomination along the way.

Williams played 113 senior matches before leaving GWS at the end of 2020.

A New South Wales native, he chose to turn down a three-year offer from the Giants, preferring to sign a six-year contract with Carlton valued at around $900,000 per year.

The running defender's arrival at Princes Park was highly anticipated, and while Williams impressed, his first two seasons in navy blue were hampered by injury.

Various incidents restricted his ability to take the field, the most serious being an ACL injury sustained in pre-season training that saw Williams miss the entire 2023 campaign.
