RYAN Schoenmakers wants to stay at Hawthorn despite growing interest from rival clubs.
The out-of-contract swingman was one of the feel-good stories of the Hawks' Grand Final win over West Coast last Saturday.
After missing Hawthorn's 2013 and 2014 premiership triumphs, Schoenmakers was one of just two Hawks – former Demon James Frawley was the other – who tasted flag success for the first time against the Eagles.
However, the 24-year-old's impressive form after being recalled for the Hawks' semi-final win over Adelaide – playing as a forward, he averaged eight marks and kicked four goals in three finals – caught the attention of rival clubs.
The Sydney Swans and Fremantle have been linked to Schoenmakers in recent weeks, while Essendon has also reportedly inquired about him.
But Schoenmakers told Adelaide radio station FIVEaa on Wednesday that his preference was to stay at the Hawks.
"Over the next week or two, my manager will sit down with the club and we'll discuss that and sort everything out," Schoenmakers said.
'But I honestly haven't really thought about that at the moment, I'm still on a massive high.
"Absolutely, my preference is to stay where I am. I'm really happy there, I've got some really close friends.
"(My manager and the club) will sit down and work out all the technicalities I suppose. I'll just leave that to them."
Schoenmakers was also targeted by rival clubs in last year's trade period, with Adelaide believed to have been most interested.
Despite being overlooked for the Hawks' entire 2014 finals campaign, he decided to serve out the final year of his existing contract at Waverley.
"It really wasn't that much of a decision for me. I love the club and I love playing there," Schoenmakers said.
"For me, it was about staying there and being part of success.
"I'd seen that happen the past few years and I thought being at Hawthorn that's the place where I'm going to get success.
"I knew it was going to be some hard yards to get back into the side and be part of that, but I was happy to take on the challenge."
