RICHMOND draftee Daniel Rioli has been handed the club's famous No.17 jumper, once worn by the prized youngster's great-uncle Maurice Rioli when he was a star at Punt Road in the 1980s.

The No.17, most famously donned by revered Richmond champion Jack Dyer, was worn by Maurice Rioli as he won two Jack Dyer medals and a Norm Smith Medal.

The younger Rioli said he was deeply honored to be given the opportunity to continue the family tradition at Tigerland.

"It got mentioned to me and I spoke to mum and dad about it and they were happy with it," he told the club's website.

"To have the number Maurice wore passed on to me, it’s a big honour.

"I’m looking forward to representing it as best as I can."

In 2003 the Tigers decided that the club captain would wear the No.17 in honour of Dyer, the club's greatest player, with Wayne Campbell, Kane Johnson and Chris Newman embracing the tradition.

Trent Cotchin decided to continue wearing No.9 when he was appointed captain in 2012.

In other numbers revealed by the Tigers, draftee Oleg Markov will wear the No. 31 vacated by Nick Vlastuin, who has moved into the No. 1 jumper.

Fellow draftee Nathan Broad will wear the No. 35 jumper vacated by Ben Lennon, who now has No. 7.

Rookies Callum Moore (No. 36), Mabior Chol (No. 41) and Adam Marcon (No. 44) have also been handed their numbers, with the Tigers' list now complete.
