GOLD COAST bad boy HARLEY Bennell could join Fremantle on a three-year deal early in the NAB AFL Trade Period.
Bennell's manager Colin Young told NAB AFL Trade Radio both clubs had already spoken about negotiating a trade and were keen to seal the deal soon after the trade period starts on Monday.
"I had a quick chat to (Dockers list manager) Brad Lloyd this morning and he has already met with (Suns list manager) Scotty Clayton and he said it was a pretty good meeting," Young said.
"So hopefully, cross fingers, that won't take too long to get done in the first week … Brad said he wanted to get it done, so he wouldn't be stupid about it … I can't see any hiccups going forward."
Young said Bennell's contract with Freo would be a completely new deal, and the Dockers would not be required to pay anything for the last, unfulfilled season on his Suns contract.
Young also corrected reports that Bennell had missed a medical screening with onetime suitor Richmond, the manager insisting he had informed the Tigers that Bennell wouldn't attend the appointment.
Young also provided updates on a few other of his clients.
• He wasn't as confident about helping Greater Western Sydney forward Cam McCarthy return home to Western Australia, acknowledging that the Giants have many decisions to make during the trade period.
• Gold Coast star Jaeger O'Meara was solely focused on rehabilitating his knee and being ready for round one next season, and innuendo surrounding his potential departure was just that.
• Several clubs had contacted West Coast to inquire about ruckman/forward Callum Sinclair but suggested much of the interest had been "media driven".
• Unlucky Docker Anthony Morabito's troublesome knee has benefited from rest but his future at Freo remains in doubt. A decision could be made late next week.
• Carlton free agent Dennis Armfield is confident he will be offered a new contract by the Blues, but will probably need to wait for other deals to take place first.
