SAM JACOBS believes its time All Australian selectors awarded teammate Eddie Betts with debut representative honours.

Jacobs knows Betts better than most and Saturday night's elimination final against the Western Bulldogs marks their 61st senior appearance together, having both started their careers at Carlton.

After his sensational first season with the Crows last year (51 goals) Betts has taken his game to yet another level in the forwardline, booting a career-best 58 goals.

Jacobs told AFL.com.au he's never seen the 28-year-old in such form and said he's one of the smartest players he's come across.

"He's (Betts) obviously missed out a couple of times and couple that with the form he's in this year, I think he's really deserving to be All Australian and I'd love to see him be a lock for that forward pocket," Jacobs said.

"Putting his offensive side away, the value he brings to the team in the defensive pressure and even the stats that probably aren't recorded – the steals, the intercepts.

"And you don't need me to tell you how exciting he is offensively and what he can do.

"I know he's not a real footy head – but he instinctively just understands game plans and what we're trying to do."

Betts is one of Adelaide's most experienced finals player, having played in six with the Blues.

Saturday night will be his first with the Crows, but his knowledge has allowed him to help those at West Lakes who will receive their first taste of finals football.

Of the Crows' selected 22, 10 players will be playing their first final.

"I'm sure he's excited to play his first final for the Crows, he's been exposed to it a bit at Carlton – he's played a few finals now," Jacobs said.

"He's definitely a leader and someone you can really lean on to get some advice from."
