FORMER Hawthorn and Fremantle-listed player Sam Menegola headlines a group of 23 players that will participate in the WA State AFL combine on Saturday.
Menegola, 23, spent the 2011 season on Hawthorn's rookie list and then spent three seasons on Fremantle's rookie list but never played an AFL game before being delisted at the end of 2014.
But a staggering season for Subiaco in the WAFL has put him back in contention for another shot at AFL football.
Menegola missed the first 10 rounds of the WAFL home and away season but averaged 27 possessions and kicked 18 goals across the last 12 games to finish third in the Sandover Medal, just four votes shy of winner Aidan Tropiano.
Menegola also gathered 30 touches and kicked a goal in Subiaco's 66-point WAFL Grand Final win over West Perth.
His premiership teammate Shane Yarran will also feature at the WA combine this week. He kicked five goals for the Lions in the Grand Final after winning the Bernie Naylor Medal as the WAFL's leading goalkicker this season.
Yarran, 26, also played in the AFL Indigenous All Stars game against West Coast back in February and was impressive after being drafted in to play for the All Stars at short notice.
Menegola and Yarran are the two oldest players of the 23 that will participate in Saturday's one-day combine at HBF Arena in Joondalup.
The players will go through similar testing to the NAB AFL Combine, including sprint, repeat spring and agility tests, as well as the vertical jump tests and the beep tests.
There will also be an hour allocated for the players to interview with representatives of the AFL's clubs.
Participants: Marcus Adams (West Perth), Jared Bell (Perth), Joshua Branchi (South Fremantle), Nathan Broad (Swan Districts), Darcy Cameron (Claremont), Michael Cronan (East Fremantle), David Ehlers (Claremont), Jake Florenca (South Fremantle), James Harrold (East Fremantle), Marshall Jones (Perth), Brad Lynch (Swan Districts), Shane McAdam (Claremont), Sam Menegola (Subiaco), Jimmy Miller (South Fremantle), Marlon Pickett (South Fremantle), Levi Ridley (Swan Districts), Bailey Rogers (Claremont), John Shaw (Swan Districts), Kade Stewart (South Fremantle), Matt Taylor (Perth), Francis Watson (Claremont), Jack Watson (Swan Districts), Shane Yarran (Subiaco)
