CARLTON is "seriously" investigating an incident from Saturday night's match against the Brisbane Lions in which a fan appeared to throw a bottle at an umpire.
The incident happened late in the fourth quarter of the 64-point loss and came from the Blues' cheer squad directly behind the goals at the western end of the Gabba.
It is not known yet whether the supporter was a member of Carlton's cheer squad, but the club said it was taking every care with the investigation.
"The Carlton Football Club is investigating the matter and is taking the incident very seriously," a club spokesman said.
A spokesman for the Gabba said it was also reviewing the incident.
"It is disappointing that in this day and age this sort of behaviour occurs on what was a good night for the Lions and their fans," the spokesman said.
It is hoped the incident will be resolved by Tuesday.
