FORMER basketballer Michael Luxford has been promoted to Geelong's senior list after impressing as a rookie over the past two years.
Luxford made his debut in round 10 this year against Essendon, and again played for the Cats in round 12 to finish the season with two senior games.
The 20-year-old has clearly shown enough improvement and development in his time with the Cats for them to have high hopes, with the club announcing the list upgrade on Wednesday.
"Michael has improved a lot over his time in the program and we think he has more development left in him," said coach Chris Scott.
Luxford is another success for the Cats' recruiting staff, having been one of the country's elite junior basketballers. He won a silver medal at under-17 level in Australia's world basketball championships campaign in 2012.
Scott acknowledged the youngster's exciting traits, having performed well across the VFL in the past two seasons.
"His physical attributes are helping him, but his understanding of the game and his work-rate and his ability to take on knowledge has been the thing that we've been most impressed with," he said.
The first list lodgment deadline for clubs is Friday. The Cats will enter next month's NAB AFL Draft with four selections – No.67, 85, 103, 121.
