A CARLTON member has been suspended for five years after throwing a bottle towards an umpire on Saturday night.
The incident happened late in the fourth quarter of the 64-point loss to the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.
He was sitting in the Carlton cheer squad.
After three days of investigating, the Blues have come down hard.
The sanction includes:
- a five-year suspension as a Carlton member (2016 to 2020) including not being able to sit in the cheer squad area on match day;
- 2015 Carlton membership suspended for the rest of the season.
Carlton CEO Steven Trigg described it as an unfortunate incident.
"We have been working really hard to create a family friendly environment within our cheer squad and it's unfortunate this isolated incident has affected the match day experience of those around him," Trigg said.
"Carlton will not stand for it and as it has breached our members' code of conduct we have imposed the appropriate sanction.
"We want our fans to come to games, support our team, and go home proud regardless of result."
