AFTER two listless defeats to open the season, Blues skipper Marc Murphy says every Carlton player needs to strongly evaluate whether he has the desire to be successful at the club.
Following the Blues' 69-point thumping at the hands of West Coast last Friday night, Mick Malthouse's side sits third last on the ladder.
In both the defeat to the Eagles and the round one loss to Richmond, Carlton has started well before being comprehensively beaten.
Murphy, who has struggled to make an impact in the opening fortnight, said the lapses in form would force everyone at the Blues to review their efforts.
"As individuals within the side everyone's got to have a hard look at themselves and work out whether they really want to be here and want to be successful," he said on Monday.
"And as captain I've got to lead that and make sure the boys are following and we're doing everything we can to make sure we're being successful.
"Those lapses are really disappointing, and we're going to make sure everything we do at training we're doing consistently well, and that way on game-day it just happens for us."
Chris Judd started last week's game against the Eagles in blistering form before being shut down by tagger Matt Rosa.
Ahead of their meeting with rival Essendon at the MCG on Saturday afternoon, Murphy conceded the Blues had not done enough to help the Blues' former skipper.
"We've probably got to do a better job of supporting him or whoever gets tagged [so] we're not leaving them there one-out," he said.
"That's probably the main thing that's really disappointing, the fact that he (Judd) got tagged heavily and we probably didn't support him enough."
The Blues could be boosted by the return of Andrew Walker, who played for VFL side Northern Blues against the NAB AFL Academy on Saturday.
Walker gathered 29 disposals, eight clearances and six inside-50s as he builds up his game-time in his return from a knee injury.
The club will also be hoping to be aided by the appointment of former Collingwood and North Melbourne forward Saverio Rocca as a part-time goalkicking coach.
Rocca, who booted 748 goals from 257 games, will work closely with Levi Casboult, who had a wayward night against the Eagles, kicking 2.3.
"Big Sav started last week, so it's good to have him down here. It will be good to see him work with Levi and the rest of the forwards to hopefully kick the ball straight through the middle," Murphy said.
Murphy expects a more competitive performance against the Bombers, who beat the reigning premiers Hawthorn by two points in a thriller at the MCG on Sunday.
"To say that we're not fit enough after quarter-time has nothing to do with it. It's definitely above the shoulders," he said.
"We're two games into a season. We're not going to throw the baby out with the bathwater. We need to really show something at the moment."
