ADELAIDE is in the hunt to sign Alex Keath, as the Victorian cricketer weighs up his sporting future.
The Crows are believed to be leading the charge for the 23-year-old, with Geelong and St Kilda also among the interested clubs.
Keath, who was cut by the Victorian Bushrangers at the end of last season and is currently playing county cricket in England, is tipped to play cricket this summer in South Australia.
But he is seriously considering his football options as well, with the likelihood of signing on with an AFL club but continuing to pursue cricket in the summer.
Keath is a free hit for clubs, as he can sign as a category B rookie because he has not been registered with a football club for more than three years.
As a category B rookie he could be paid outside of the salary cap until he played a senior game. Under the alternative talent rules, he can commit to a club at any stage for the 2016 season.
Keath met with many clubs before he went to the UK for its summer of cricket and has stayed in contact with the AFL scene in recent years while trying to forge a cricket career.
Keath was listed by start-up club Gold Coast as one of group of 17-year-olds they had priority access to outside of the draft. But the 196cm prospect gave up a chance to be a member of the Suns' fledgling team to sign with the Bushrangers.
He started his career as an all-rounder and captained Victoria's under-19 side and also played for Australia in the junior World Cup, but struggled for opportunities in the Bushrangers' first-class team.
The Crows have been open-minded to adding talent through the category B rule in the past, including former basketballers Ben Dowdell and Jack Osborn in recent seasons.
