PRIZED St Kilda youngster Paddy McCartin has been ruled out for one week after lingering symptoms from a head knock he suffered in the VFL at the weekend.
McCartin, who has played two games since he was snapped up with pick No.1 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft, was concussed during the first half Sandringham's clash against Werribee on Saturday.
Rather than give the 19-year-old more time this week to prove his fitness, the Saints made an early and cautious call on the key forward, who had up to 12 stitches as a result of the injury.
"He got a laceration to the top of his head and was knocked out," St Kilda physio Andrew Wallis told saints.com.au.
"We've actually ruled him out this week. He's still showing a few symptoms, so expect him back next week."
Midfielder Luke Dunstan has recovered well after a head clash with teammate Blake Acres and will be available for Sunday's clash against Hawthorn.
"He put his tooth through his lip and there was a lot of blood … but he is not too bad," Wallis said.
Daniel McKenzie, who suffered a head knock against the Brisbane Lions on Sunday, passed a concussion test on Tuesday but will face further examinations this week ahead of the Hawthorn clash.
