ESSENDON is set to confirm John Worsfold as its new senior coach at a press conference called for 11am on Monday.
The Bombers have settled on Worsfold as James Hird's permanent replacement and were understood to be working through his contract terms late last week.
AFL.com.au reported on Thursday that Worsfold would be the club's next senior coach but the club denied it had completed its selection process.
The 47-year-old's appointment is imminent, however, after a charm offensive that started in early September when a contingent of Bombers leaders flew to Adelaide to meet with the 2006 premiership coach.
The Bombers first denied they had offered Worsfold the coaching position in mid-September when it was suggested they had tabled a five-year deal.
A week later Worsfold announced he wanted to lead the club, having rediscovered his passion for coaching as interim coaching director at Adelaide following the death of Crows coach Phil Walsh.
The length of Worsfold's contract has been said to have been a sticking point when finalising his terms.
Worsfold was unavailable for comment on Sunday but he spoke extensively about Essendon's future on Channel Seven over the weekend, repeating he would "absolutely" like to coach the club next season.
"They're a tremendous football club with a great history and a great record, and wonderful people involved there," he said.
"The vision is for the future obviously and what can be achieved.
"They've got a lot of work to do, but it should all be positive."
It is not yet clear if former Gold Coast coach and Worsfold's 1992 and 1994 West Coast premiership teammate Guy McKenna will form part of the new coach's panel.
"Those decisions wouldn't be made until you get in there and get a feel for what's in place and what is missing," Worsfold said.
"Then the skill set for somebody to come in would be made after that."
Collingwood assistant Scott Burns and former Western Bulldogs coach Brendan McCartney reportedly made up the final three candidates to win the Essendon position.
The Bombers were contacted for comment on Sunday.
