TOM LYNCH is walking a tightrope this week, balancing the excitement of playing in his first AFL final with his aim to treat it like any other game.
Lynch is one of 11 Adelaide players selected last week who are set to make their finals debuts against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed an injury-free and career-best season in 2015, leading the competition for goal assists.
Skipper Taylor Walker has played three finals, in 2012, and his advice to the club's newbies is to embrace the heat of the game and enjoy it.
Lynch said he knew how to get the best out of himself so while he would try to enjoy the build-up to the elimination final, he would also focus on maintaining his routine.
Confident 'Campo' backs Crows to carry on
"It's a special time of year and something as a kid you're growing up wanting to be a part of," Lynch said.
"It's a final and there's a lot on the line but I understand what makes me play my best footy and also the team understands how they play their best footy.
"I've just got to play my role within that and that'll go a long way to hopefully giving us a good result."
The Crows had risen to another level late in the season, notching several powerful victories before being overwhelmed by Geelong in round 23.
Despite the loss, Lynch insisted the playing group remained confident in its ability to cause September damage.
He believed the key would be to bring the same attitude that allowed the Crows to win six of the seven games leading into its loss to the Cats.
"You can't afford to be off in AFL footy these days, otherwise you get taught a lesson, so our pressure certainly wasn't there for the four quarters," he said.
"It must have been a mindset thing – we just weren't switched on.
"Getting [to the finals] now it's all a level playing field and we feel as if we can really compete with those sides.
"The boys are really optimistic about what lies ahead for us ... it's all on us from here."
