Name: Jed Anderson
Height: 179cm
Weight: 79kg
Age: 21
Games: 10
Goals: 4
Drafted: GWS had pre-listed him in 2012 and Anderson was traded to Hawthorn (along with picks 28 and 66) for Stephen Gilham and picks 27 and 63.
What the 2015 AFL Season Guide said: A luckless 2014 for Anderson, who contracted pneumonia while on a hunting trip in his native Northern Territory in the off-season and then, in his first VFL game for the year, suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. But such was the form the talented midfielder displayed in his debut season in 2013 many Hawthorn supporters have already penciled his name in their best 22 for this season. Tough and skilful, he is the prototype Hawthorn player and fans will watch his fitness and form closely.
Where will he play? Midfield/half-forward.
State league form: Was among the best players in Box Hill’s Grand Final loss to Williamstown. Anderson played 15 VFL games this year and kicked 25 goals. He kicked a bag of six against Coburg and four against Essendon, so he knows where the big sticks are. Does his fair share of tackling as well.
2015: Played the first three AFL games of the season, but his only other match for the year was Hawthorn’s loss to GWS in round six. He wasn’t able to get back into a team that would go on to win its third straight premiership.
Why Hawthorn traded him: Hawthorn wanted to keep Anderson and he was contracted for 2016 but Anderson wanted to play regular senior footy.
What is he good at? Despite his relatively small stature, Anderson isn’t afraid to tackle. The left-footer has shown he can mark overhead, with his ability to jump and mark at the highest point serving him well.
What does he need to work on? Anderson's work when his team doesn’t have the ball isn’t always great and his kicking can improve.
