GEELONG has re-signed versatile midfielder Mark Blicavs.

The new deal is understood to be a three-year extension, tying him to the club until the end of 2018. 

Blicavs, 24, joins a long list of Cats to recently re-commit to the club, with Andrew Mackie and Jake Kolodjashnij both signing two-year contract extensions this week.

In-demand midfielder Steven Motlop also signed a two-year deal earlier this week.

It is understood veteran Cat Corey Enright will extend his decorated career into a 17th season with an announcement due as soon as next week.

"I'm very excited to have signed with the football club. It's something I'm very happy with," Blicavs told the club's website.

"Other players have been signing throughout the whole year, and to see so many guys commit to the club shows that there's a lot of trust there.

"Everyone's on board to see the club succeed."

Blicavs was perhaps the most improved player in the AFL in 2015, averaging career-highs in disposals (18.2), tackles (six), clearances (3.6), contested possessions (9.6) and hit-outs (16.3).

After spending time on the wing and in defence earlier in the season, the 198cm, 97kg midfielder was a revelation when he moved into the midfield.

Although he spent large portions of the season as a pure onballer, he was most dangerous when he found himself in the third-man up ruck position teaming with the athletic Rhys Stanley, before the former Saint injured his foot.

The Cats even came under fire for their ruck tactics with umpires and opposition teams unaware of which one of Stanley and Blicavs was nominated as the designated ruckman.

Blicavs has played 66 of a possible 71 games since making his debut in round one, 2013.

The former Olympic athletics hopeful was signed by Geelong as a category B rookie in 2012, before being elevated to the primary list on a permanent basis at the end of last season.

"In my first year playing in the AFL I probably couldn't quite believe it was happening," Blicavs said. "I was a bit star-struck by some of my teammates.

"But now I look at myself as just another footballer who is trying to make his club a better place and his team a better team.

"I'm very proud with what I've achieved so far, but now I want to help bring success to the club."
