The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed the matches played in week one of the 2015 Toyota AFL Finals. The following charges were laid:
Robert Murphy, Western Bulldogs, has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against Charlie Cameron, Adelaide Crows, during the fourth quarter of the Second Elimination Final between the Western Bulldogs and the Adelaide Crows, played at the MCG on Saturday, September 12, 2015.
In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.
Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Adelaide Crows Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as careless conduct with low impact to the head. This offence was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable bad record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a $1000 sanction.
Lindsay Thomas, North Melbourne, has been charged with a first offence of misconduct against Dylan Grimes, Richmond, during the third quarter of the First Elimination Final between North Melbourne and Richmond, played at the MCG on Sunday September 13, 2015
In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.
Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Richmond Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as first offence for misconduct. A misconduct offence draws a fixed financial sanction of $1500. The player has no applicable bad record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a $1000 sanction.
Other Matters Assessed:
Contact between West Coast’s Xavier Ellis and Hawthorn’s Cyril Rioli from the first quarter of Friday’s Second Qualifying Final was assessed. The panel said Rioli was going back with the flight of the ball and seeking to mark, with Ellis coming towards him and seeking to spoil. Rioli turned in the air as he completed the mark. Ellis made contact with the ball initially with his fist and then made subsequent high contact with his bicep to Rioli. It was the view of the panel that Ellis was legitimately attempting to spoil the ball and the matter was dealt with on-field at the time with a 50-metre penalty to the Hawthorn player. No further action was taken.
