SHARPSHOOTER Jay Schulz will still be at Port Adelaide beyond this season despite persistent trade rumours surrounding the forward, according to his manager Liam Pickering.

Schulz is out of contract at the end of 2015 and has been linked to Fremantle, who are in the market for a goal kicker to help skipper Matthew Pavlich.

Fairfax Media reported on Saturday the Power were interested in luring Gold Coast big man Charlie Dixon to the club, and given the pressures on their salary cap, it appears there would be no room for Schulz if the Sun headed south.

Pickering denied his client had made a mistake in knocking back a two-year contract offer from the Power last year.

"It wasn't a pay increase, it was a pay cut, a significant one. That's initially what was offered," Pickering told Melbourne radio station SEN on Saturday.

"Hence why we said we'd look at it again in the middle of the year.

"We're working through it at the moment, but we've been working through it for a while.

"The mail was that they were really tight on the salary cap, so I don't know where that's at."

Pickering says despite the constant talk surrounding Schulz' future, he's confident the forward will have a home at Alberton in the future.

"Port Adelaide haven't told me they're as heavily into Dixon as what's been reported," Pickering said.

"It would be pretty poor form in my view, if that's the way they went but we'll see what happens.

"You don't let a bloke walk out your door that's as good as him (Schulz), he's in their leadership group," Pickering said.

"He's a good footballer, he's 30 (years old) not 34, and hasn't missed a game in nearly three years.

"He's durable, kicked 68 goals last year, 60-odd the year before, he's on track for 50 or 60 this year.
