PORT Adelaide has satisfied its desire to add depth to its outside game at the NAB AFL Draft, securing two gifted runners.
The Power snared local prospect Riley Bonner (pick No.37) as well as small forward Aidyn Johnson (No. 45) at Tuesday night's draft.
The club's recruiting boss Geoff Parker said injuries to Jared Polec and Matt White in 2015 had exposed the lack of outside depth at Alberton and improving it had been the key aim at the draft.
Like Jack Hombsch and Tom Jonas, 191cm Bonner has the ability to play on opponents both taller and smaller than he, while Johnson possesses tremendous pace and some handy "tricks" in attack.
"This draft I had no idea how it was going to pan out; we liked him as a South Australian and he's played some SANFL football so that was attractive," Parker said of Bonner.
"The run and the kick and he's also a good size at 190cm, he can play in a few different spots as well.
"We weren't sure [whether he would still be available at pick No.37] but we were glad he was there.
"What we were trying to look for was some outside run and spee - last year with the Polec injury and the Matty White injury, we probably just lacked a little bit of speed in that area.
"These two boys obviously bring that."
Having traded in players with exceptional potential in Jimmy Toumpas and Charlie Dixon, Port only drafted two new players on Tuesday night.
It also to upgraded rookie Same Gray, who ended the 2015 season in outstanding fashion averaging 35 possessions a game in the final three rounds.
Selection No. 37, Riley Bonner
Geoff Parker says: "A long penetrating left-foot kick, (he) runs off half back, he's got good speed and endurance. He was All Australian at the under-18 national carnival … he's done a little bit of athletics so he fits in with how Ken [Hinkley] wants to play."
Selection No. 45, Aidyn Johnson
Geoff Parker says: "He's lightly built but he can really run, he's lightening quick, got good agility, plays with a little bit of aggression. We think he can do a few little tricks."
