Michael Voss says speculation players want out of Lions is worrying
MICHAEL VOSS is alarmed at speculation that numerous Brisbane Lions want out of the club he captained to three flags in wake of his departure as coach.
The trade rumour mill is rife with suggestions Lions players are seeking opportunities elsewhere.
Jared Polec is already a confirmed departure. Brent Staker's name is the latest to be mentioned while the futures of Billy Longer, Sam Docherty and Elliot Yeo are all the subject of speculation.
Voss told AFL.com.au's The Final Say he has heard the speculation.
"It's a concern," he said.
"When you're talking about the drafting that we've gone through – our critical decision in 2010 was to try and lower our draft picks and get some good quality talent in.
"At the moment they've been talked about [as] leaving so if that does happen I'm sure the club will be fighting tooth and nail to ensure that it doesn't. And [even] if it doesn't then it certainly doesn't look good."
Voss confirmed he is open to offers on assistant coaching roles, but as yet, there are no deals on the table.
Voss, who parted ways with the Lions after almost five seasons as coach, has reiterated his desire to stay in coaching.
The most recent speculation has seen him linked to a role at Collingwood.
"I have no update on anything at this point in time. It's a little bit of a sit and wait and obviously there's a few coaches out there that are still yet to be appointed so that will become a bit clearer. But for mine, it's a sit and wait game."
He said he'd jump at the right assistant coaching opportunity, but could also consider a role in the media.
"Absolutely, I love coaching so if there's an opportunity and there's a club that would have me I'd love to join them.
The last five years I've really enjoyed, particularly the last three years. You feel like you continue to grow so to give it away now would be silly."
"I haven't really gone down the path, I think the first thing for mine is to see if there's any clubs out there and then maybe we'll look at that option."
What will give Brisbane the edge when they meet their old foes, Adelaide, in a preliminary?
