CARLTON'S Chris Yarran and Adelaide midfielders Rory Sloane and Patrick Dangerfield, all of whom missed inclusion in the 40-man All Australian squad, are part of the 22-man team of the year selected using the Official AFL Player Ratings.
Gold Coast star Gary Ablett has been named captain because he finished the year at No.1 on the player ratings table.
BACKS
Shaun Burgoyne: First for contested possessions and pressure acts for small-medium defenders.
Alex Rance: First for intercept possessions and second for preventing a mark when his opponent was targeted on a lead.
Chris Yarran: Second for running bounces. Was beaten one-on-one just once in 20 contests.
HALF-BACKS
Nick Malceski: First for metres gained. Was beaten one-on-one just three times in 24 contests.
Harry Taylor: First at preventing his opponent from winning the ball when isolated one-on-one.
Brodie Smith: Second for metres gained and No.6 for total disposals by small-medium defenders.
CENTRES
Joel Selwood: Fifth for centre clearances, sixth for score involvements of midfielders, ninth for contested possessions and averaged one goal per game.
Nat Fyfe: Third for contested possessions, seventh for score involvements and eighth for goals per game of midfielders.
Rory Sloane: Was the only midfielder in the top 10 for tackles (sixth) and score assists (fifth).
