Collingwood 'flows through my veins', says draftee
Collingwood father-son reveals his fondness for his father's club
COLLINGWOOD father-son prospect Darcy Moore says his passion for the Magpies "flows through his veins", as he looks to follow in his father’s footsteps.
The 18-year-old, who is the son of club great and two-time Brownlow medallist Peter Moore, said he is eager to join the Westpac Centre, having grown up as an avid Collingwood supporter.
"We don’t play favourites, but there’s one particular jumper I’d love to wear and it would be pretty romantic, but we’ll just see what happens," Moore told media on day three of the 2014 NAB AFL Draft Combine.
"The drawn Grand Final (in 2010), I was getting as excited as anyone else when they won that premiership.
"Certainly it still flows through my veins and goes through my head."
But Moore admitted he has had to contain his excitement, with the father-son bidding meeting to take place on Monday.
"If this year’s taught me anything, it’s that there’s a lot of wheeling and dealing that goes on in the industry."
Carlton has expressed an interest in the 199cm tall forward/defender, with the club’s national recruiting boss Shane Rogers leaving the door ajar on bidding for Moore with Carlton’s first-round draft selection (pick No.6).
"The Carlton footy club is obviously a proud organisation … and they have a really rich history so to have the opportunity to play for them would be huge, just like all the other 17 clubs," Moore said.
"That is very hard to say and I’ll probably get crucified for that, but at the end of the day, you’ve got to look at it super objectively."
Under the father-son model, individual clubs have the chance to bid for an eligible father-son selection, with the nominated club then required to match the best bid with its next draft choice.
