PROSPECTIVE free agent Scott Selwood has deferred contract talks with West Coast so he can focus on overcoming the ankle injury that derailed his 2014 season.
The Eagles' joint vice-captain played just 12 games last year after injuring his right ankle in the round three win over St Kilda.
After having surgery last June, the midfielder seemed to have made a full recovery when he returned to play the Eagles' final game of 2014, against Gold Coast.
But once he returned to pre-season training his ankle began to trouble him again and he is yet to return to full training after having another operation in December.
Selwood is set to become a free agent at the end of this season and, at 24, would appeal to rival clubs as a long-term blue-chip investment.
AFL.com.au understands the Victorian had positive preliminary discussions with West Coast on a new deal, but has since told the Eagles he does not wish to advance those talks until he is back to full fitness and form.

Selwood's brother Joel is Geelong captain but it is believed he has no interest in returning to Victoria at this stage.
The Eagles' 2012 best and fairest winner started running again in late January and has gradually increased his training intensity as he strives to play some part in the NAB Challenge ahead of round one.
Selwood was made the Eagles' joint vice-captain in 2014, along with spearhead Josh Kennedy.
The former Bendigo Pioneer is the youngest of four brothers who have all played AFL, with twins Adam and Troy previously representing West Coast and the Brisbane Lions respectively.
