Collingwood

State league affiliate: Collingwood (VFL)
This weekend: Collingwood v Sandringham - Saturday July 4, 2pm, Victoria Park

Ruckman Brodie Grundy suffered an injury scare in the first quarter of the Magpies' 10-point win after colliding with teammate Ben Kennedy.

The 21-year-old returned to the field later in the first term and played out the second and third quarters in limited game time.

It was Grundy's first appearance since sustaining a neck injury at training in the lead-up to the Magpies' round 11 clash against Greater Western Sydney.

Ball-winner Levi Greenwood was withdrawn from the game, with the club looking ahead to its away clash to Port Adelaide next Thursday night.

Defender Ben Reid was also rested after suffering a corked calf in the VFL last weekend.

Midfielder David Myers, who made a return from a left shoulder injury he sustained in round one, was taken off the ground late in the game with a left knee injury in the Bombers' 44-point loss.

The 26-year-old had ice applied to his knee and will be further assessed in coming days.

In better news, onballer Heath Hocking got through unscathed in his second game this year after overcoming a persistent groin injury.

Another omitted Docker, fringe ruckman Jack Hannath, finished with 10 touches and 19 hit-outs.

Midfielder Jacob Ballard (26 touches) and draftee onballer Connor Blakely (23) were kept busy in the middle.

Geelong

This weekend: Casey Scorpions v Geelong - Saturday July 4, 2pm, Casey Fields

Midfielder Jimmy Bartel was named the Cats' best in his return from injury, finishing with a match-high 28 touches, seven clearances, six tackles and five marks in about 80 per cent of game time.

It was the 31-year-old's first appearance since injuring his left knee in round three against Gold Coast.

Bartel was granted permission to take part in the match after the Geelong-Adelaide clash was cancelled in the wake of Crows coach Phil Walsh's death.

Jarrad Jansen collected 21 disposals and booted a goal after being used as a marking target in attack, while George Horlin-Smith also performed well with 20 touches in the Cats' 48-point loss.

Midfielder Jake Barrett had a day out in the Giants' massive win over the Swans, with 43 touches and 15 clearances in the 183-point smashing.

The tough midfielder is yet to debut at AFL level but he'd have to be close with another outstanding game, where he also laid 10 tackles.

Former Swan Jed Lamb torched his old side with 24 possessions, 10 marks and eight goals.

Josh Kelly chimed in with 42 possessions in another classy game while running defender Nathan Wilson grabbed 35 of his own.

Hawthorn

State league affiliate: Box Hill Hawks (VFL)
This weekend: Box Hill Hawks v Frankston - Saturday July 4, 2pm, Box Hill City Oval

Midfielder Jonathan Simpkin and ruckman Ben McEvoy were named among Box Hill's best in its 65-point win.

The experienced pair finished with one goal apiece to cap off their solid contribution across the ground.

"They worked hand in hand. (McEvoy) won most of the taps and outmuscled the Frankston rucks," Box Hill coach Marco Bello told AFL.com.au.

"He was fairly influential at the ruck contest but also around the ground, and Simpkin was the beneficiary of McEvoy's work and had eight clearances for the day.

"It [the weather] wasn't conducive to a clean style of football (but) Simpkin was one of the better ones … and finished with 30-plus possessions."

Reliable onballer Alex Woodward continued his good form with three goals, while tall forward Sam Grimley booted two.

Melbourne

State league affiliate: Casey Scorpions (VFL)
This weekend: Casey Scorpions v Geelong - Saturday July 4, 2pm, Casey Fields

Experienced ruckman Mark Jamar, midfielder Viv Michie (29 touches) and defender Jack Fitzpatrick (10 marks) led the way in Casey's 48-point win.

"Jamar was one of our best-performed players. He had a really strong battle with Geelong's (Dawson) Simpson," Scorpions coach Justin Plapp told AFL.com.au

"He provided a link for us and kicked a goal when he went forward, which is one thing we've been trying to work with Mark on to add variety to his game."

Plapp said rookie James Harmes (28 disposals) continued to show improvement in the midfield and was "tracking in the right direction to play senior footy".

North Melbourne

State league affiliates: Werribee, North Ballarat (VFL)
This weekend: Werribee v Coburg - Sunday July 5, 2pm, Avalon Airport Oval; North Ballarat v Richmond - Sunday July 5, 1.30pm, Eureka Stadium

Omitted forward Ben Brown made an instant impact in his first VFL game since last August by booting four goals – including three in the first term – from 12 disposals and seven marks.

Experienced backman Scott McMahon (26 touches), second-year defender Luke McDonald (22) and Mason Wood (19) also found the ball in Werribee's 58-point win.

For North Ballarat, onballer Ryan Bastinac increased his chances of being recalled this week after collecting a game-high 34 disposals and 15 clearances in his team's 32-point loss.

Mature-age rookie Matt Thomas continued his consistent run with 30 possessions and a goal.

Youngster Ben Lennon (25 disposals) and defender Matt Dea (23) also helped the Tigers secure the win.

St Kilda

State league affiliate: Sandringham (VFL)
This weekend: Collingwood v Sandringham - Saturday July 4, 2pm, Victoria Park

Coming off the back of his four goals last weekend, forward Paddy McCartin was the Zebras' leading goalkicker with two majors and took eight marks in the 10-point loss.

The wet conditions made it tough for the 19-year-old to get his hands on the ball in the opening stages, but he worked his way into the game after half-time.

McCartin, last year's No.1 draft selection, kicked the only goal for the third term after presenting well on the lead.

Midfielders Eli Templeton (25 touches) and Josh Saunders (24 touches, one goal) were also among the standouts for the St Kilda-listed players.

Sydney Swans

State league affiliate: Sydney Swans (NEAFL)
This weekend: Sydney Swans v UWS Giants - Saturday July 4, 2pm, Blacktown International Sportspark

Brandon Jack was a strong contributor again for the Swans in a brutal thumping at the hands of the Giants.

The midfielder had 23 disposals and laid eight tackles in a side that kicked just two goals and lost by 183 points.

Youngster Isaac Heeney had just nine touches in his first game back from a knee injury but the Swans will be happy to have him back on the park.

Midfielder Dan Robinson and big man Aliir Aliir both had 15 possessions but there were very few highlights for the Swans.

West Coast

Former Blue Kane Lucas had 23 possessions (11 kicks, 12 handballs), five inside 50s and kicked two goals.

Ball-winner Nathan Hrovat registered three goals, with forwards Stewart Crameri and Ayce Cordy kicking two apiece.
