WEST Coast is considering its next move after vice-captain Scott Selwood formally requested a move to Geelong as a restricted free agent.
AFL.com.au revealed in July that Selwood was set to join Geelong, and the 25-year-old confirmed on Friday that he wanted to join his brother Joel at the Cats after 135 games with the Eagles.
The Cats have officially tabled an offer for Selwood, with the Eagles having 72 hours to decide whether to match the offer and force a potential trade.
If the Eagles do not match the offer, they will be in line for free agency compensation.
Selwood has battled an ankle injury during Adam Simpson's time as coach and failed to cement a spot in the club's midfield.
He has played just 25 games in two years and was not part of the Eagles' preliminary final or Grand Final teams, after a solid performance as the substitute in the qualifying final.
However he was an excellent performer before the injury, being the club's vice-captain and winning the 2012 best and fairest.
The Cats have been interested in adding players with leadership qualities who are in Selwood's age bracket.
Selwood was selection No.22 in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft.
