THE NAB Trade Period has been warming up behind the scenes as clubs prepare to make deals official from next week.
Free agency starts on Friday and from from 10am Monday clubs will start lodging paperwork and making trades.
AFL.com.au's Trade Winds will provide a round up of the latest action every morning until the end of the Trade Period on Thursday October 22.
Carlton swooping on Treloar
Adam Treloar's wish to move to Collingwood via a trade reportedly hit a roadblock on Thursday when rival clubs ramped up their bid to snare him from Greater Western Sydney.
Carlton was said to be among the clubs inquiring about Treloar to the midfielder's management, according to the Herald Sun. It is also reported that GWS is open to dealing with clubs other than Collingwood.
"We will deal with whoever can offer us the best possible deal," a Giants spokesperson said.
The Herald Sun reported the Magpies were prepared to offer GWS this year's No.7 pick in the NAB AFL Draft as well as a second-round selection from next year's draft.
However, Carlton's offer to Treloar, who grew up supporting the Blues, would be more generous financially.
The Age reported on Friday that the Magpies' deal for Treloar would involve its No.7 pick this year as well as the club's first-round selection next year, with a second-round pick coming back to the club in return.
The Magpies are also now trying to deal with the Brisbane Lions for James Aish, with St Kilda, Carlton and Adelaide among clubs reported to have shown interest in the No.7 pick from 2013 before he nominated the Magpies as his preferred club.
Pyke to make way for Leuenberger?
Sydney Swans ruckman Mike Pyke is reportedly set to retire after the club's best-and-fairest count on Friday night.
According to The Age, Pyke will call time on his career with one year left to run on his contract, giving the Swans an extra spot on their list and freeing up salary cap space.
The club could now ramp up its bid to sign restricted free agent Matthew Leuenberger from the Brisbane Lions when the free agency period starts on Friday.
The Swans could also be in the market for a second ruckman after expressing interest in West Coast's Callum Sinclair.
It has been reported Leuenberger is weighing up offers from the Swans and Essendon.
Hawks find room for Schoenmakers
Hawthorn premiership favourite Ryan Schoenmakers appears set to stay at the club after The Age reported he was set to be offered a deal on Friday.
The Hawks could lose free agent Matthew Suckling to the Western Bulldogs, creating space to sign Schoenmakers.
Suckling has a close relationship with Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge and The Age reported late Thursday that he had met with the club and could accept a three-year deal.
The premiership Hawk is yet to receive a revised offer from the Hawks after a previous offer was withdrawal.
Adelaide to deal future pick
Greater Western Sydney defender Curtly Hampton is set to cross to Adelaide
in exchange for the Crows' second-round pick in 2016, according to The
Australian.
Hampton, who requested a trade in mid-September, could be the first player
to move after the Trade Period opens on Monday morning.
The 22-year-old is contracted for another year but is seeking more senior
opportunities after spending the majority of the season in the NEAFL.
Could Crows accept Danger compo?
Adelaide's decision to match Geelong’s lucrative offer to star midfielder Patrick Dangerfield is no longer clear cut, according to The Adelaide Advertiser.
Adelaide has been adamant it would become the first AFL club to match a free agent offer, but the club is now considering the compensation pick (No.14) on offer if it lets the star walk.
"You want to get a deal that's in the best interests of the footy club and the compensation pick is something that we want to better," CEO Andrew Fagan told the Advertiser. "We wish to do that (match Geelong's offer), but we’ll see."
The free agency period starts on Friday and Adelaide would have three days to decide if it matches the Cats' offer once it has been tabled.
