POTENTIAL No. 1 draft pick Jacob Weitering insists he'll be no magic fix for the club that calls his name on Tuesday night.
The 17-year-old, who turns 18 on Monday, landed in Adelaide on Sunday morning for Tuesday's NAB AFL Draft at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
It's widely tipped he will join Carlton.
Draft Trumps: Meet Jacob Weitering
The Blues bottomed out in 2015, winning just four games, and as a strong-marking but agile key defender, Weitering would surely slot straight into the side's best 22.
Such is the anticipation that he'll be taken with the first pick that only two clubs bothered to interview him at the NAB AFL Draft Combine: the Blues and the Brisbane Lions.
He doesn't hold much hope of making it to Melbourne – the team he supports – at pick No.3.
Speaking in Glenelg on Sunday where a crowd of thousands gathered – albeit for a Christmas pageant – he said he aimed to play senior football next year.
But his expectations of how he'd fare was realistic and he said the club that drafted him should be too.
"I was a little bit lonely at the draft combine, I only had two clubs interview me," Weitering said.
"Being touted this high at No.1 or [as] a top-three draft pick, it's given me a little security as to where I may go.
"At the end of the day they're both (Carlton and the Lions) AFL clubs and they'll provide me with the opportunity to be on an AFL list – that's the dream I want to achieve.
"You're an 18-year-old boy walking into a man's world, you can't go in there expecting to absolutely kill it and whoever brings you in there – whatever club that may be – they can't expect you to fix 100 per cent of the problems."
Joining Weitering in Glenelg on Sunday was his Dandenong Stingrays teammate Kieran Collins, who is tipped to be drafted inside the top 20.
He's also a key defender and although Weitering said they worked well as a package (they've played plenty of junior footy and cricket together), it seems inevitable they'll end up at different clubs.
Draft Trumps: Meet Kieran Collins
Adelaide is well placed to snag Collins at pick No. 13 and although he'd only landed in the city hours earlier, the 17-year-old said he liked what he'd seen.
"It looks pretty good, yeah, a nice place," Collins said with a smile. "Beaches look good."
"I've spoken to [the Crows] a fair bit; if they picked me I'd be happy to come down here."
