This weekend: Central District v Adelaide - Saturday June 25, 2.10pm, My Money House Oval

The Crows suffered a 55-point loss to Central District and injuries to key pair Troy Menzel and Nathan van Berlo.

Opportunist forward Menzel was taken from the field after copping a head knock in a tackle in the third quarter while ex-skipper van Berlo sat out the second half with foot soreness.

Van Berlo, who had gathered 11 disposals to that point, had been on the comeback trail after overcoming an ankle injury.

The Crows' best performer was Cam Ellis-Yolmen.

Yet to play an AFL game under coach Don Pyke, Ellis-Yolmen provided a reminder of his talents with a game-high 37 touches and eight clearances.

Mitchell Grigg, who has also been unable to break into the Crows' line-up this year, had 31 possessions.

Ricky Henderson also gave himself a fighting chance for promotion with 28 disposals and a goal.

Others to do well included uncapped teenagers Harrison Wigg (25 possessions), Tom Doedee (23) and rookie Keenan Ramsey (23), along with Andy Otten (23).

Ex-Hawk Luke Lowden kicked three goals, while Alex Keath collected a game-high five intercept marks.

Brisbane Lions

State league affiliate: Brisbane Lions (NEAFL)
This weekend: NT Thunder v Brisbane Lions - Saturday June 25, 6.30pm, TIO Stadium

There were few positives for the Lions in their 88-point loss, with axed defender Marco Paparone and ruckman Trent West named among the team's better-performed players.

Young forward Michael Close, who is yet to feature for the Lions this season after battling a hand and wrist injury, kicked two of the Lions' seven goals, while Paparone added one.

Carlton

State league affiliate: Northern Blues (VFL)
This weekend: Northern Blues v Sandringham - Saturday June 25, 2.10pm, Preston City Oval

Young runners Matthew Dick and Dillon Viojo-Rainbow were prominent performers in the Northern Blues' 40-point loss to Sandringham in the VFL at Preston City Oval on Saturday.

Six-gamer Dick amassed 33 possessions, while the untried Viojo-Rainbow had 23 touches and slotted three goals in the third quarter to keep his team in the contest.

Midfielder Nick Graham had 21 disposals in a performance unlikely to earn a senior recall.

Exciting father-son prospect Jack Silvagni kicked two goals and a poster, and Dylan Buckley also contributed two majors while Liam Jones got one.

Collingwood

State league affiliate: Collingwood (VFL)
This weekend: Collingwood v Richmond - Sunday June 26, 2.10pm, Victoria Park

It was an even contribution from the Magpies-listed players in their 26-point win, with mature-age draftee Rupert Wills working tirelessly for his 33 disposals and one goal.

Teenage midfielder Matthew Goodyear also gathered plenty of the ball with a team-high 34 touches, while defender Adam Oxley (27 disposals, one goal) and onballer Brent Macaffer rounded out the Magpies' best.

Experienced defender Tyson Goldsack (14 disposals, eight marks) often found himself in good positions in the backline and laid a couple of brilliant tackles early in the match, but his foot skills let him down at times.

Axed duo Jack Frost and Jarrod Witts applied great pressure all game, with the latter using his 209cm frame to latch onto several marks.

Fremantle

State league affiliate: Peel Thunder (WAFL)
This weekend: Peel Thunder v Swan Districts - Saturday June 25, 2.15pm, Bendigo Bank Stadium

The Dockers' horror injury run has continued, with utility Clancee Pearce forced off the ground with an ankle injury early in the second quarter of Peel's 39-point loss.

With Fremantle having only 28 fit players to choose from this week, just three Dockers – Pearce, mature-age draftee Shane Yarran and rookie Josh Deluca – took the field for the severely undermanned Peel.

Yarran finished with 14 disposals and six inside 50s in his second game back from a calf injury but was reported for striking in the second term, while Deluca fought hard for his 21 touches and six inside 50s.

Geelong

State league affiliate: Geelong (VFL)
This weekend: Williamstown v Geelong - Sunday June 26, 2pm, Burbank Oval

Forward Nakia Cockatoo got through unscathed in his comeback from a right knee injury he sustained against West Coast in round seven.

The 19-year-old sat out the first half and was carefully managed through the last two quarters of the Cats' 16-point win, with his usual outside run and leg speed a welcome addition.

Wearing long sleeves, speedster Darcy Lang was very productive and contributed with two goals, including the sealer late in the game.

In-form forward Mitch Clark, in his fourth-straight VFL appearance, took a strong one-handed contested grab in the pocket early in the third quarter and converted the set shot, which was his only goal for the afternoon.

Gold Coast

State league affiliate: Gold Coast (NEAFL)
This weekend: Canberra Demons v Gold Coast - Saturday June 25, 10.30am, Manuka Oval

Young midfielder Mackenzie Willis was a standout performer in the Suns' 12-point win over the Canberra Demons in their NEAFL clash at Manuka Oval on Saturday.

The first-year draftee, who has played three AFL games this season, accumulated 29 possessions in the midfield as Gold Coast stormed home with seven final term goals.

Defender Seb Tape also enjoyed a strong performance with 30 disposals.

The versatile Clay Cameron slotted three goals to press his case for a senior recall.

This weekend: Giants v Sydney University - Saturday June 25, 12.55pm, Spotless Stadium

Important Giants Devon Smith and Adam Kennedy made solid returns from injury in their club's 17-point win over Sydney University in the NEAFL at Spotless Stadium on Saturday.

Forward/midfielder Smith, in his first hit-out since returning from a knee injury that sidelined him for two months, had 17 disposals but managed just three behinds.

Defender Kennedy made a better return from a shoulder injury to collect 24 possessions.

Talented on-baller Jack Steele pressed his claims for a senior recall with a best-afield performance.

Steele, who has played eight AFL games this season, gathered 37 possessions (including 24 kicks), 13 marks and eight tackles.

He was well supported by Sam Reid, who responded well to his axing with 29 touches, eight tackles and two goals, and Jake Barrett (22 disposals and 15 tackles).

Meanwhile, James Stewart bagged four goals and Adam Tomlinson contributed three majors from his 21 possessions.

Hawthorn

State league affiliate: Box Hill (VFL)
This weekend: Port Melbourne v Box Hill - Saturday June 25, 2pm, North Port Oval

Brendan Whitecross was by far the most conspicuous Hawk in Box Hill's 16-point loss to Port Melbourne in the VFL at North Port Oval on Saturday.

The luckless Whitecross was named in Hawthorn's initial 25-man squad but responded well to missing the final cut with a strong display against the Borough.

Key defender Kurt Heatherley was also in good touch in a losing team.

North Melbourne

State league affiliate: Werribee (VFL)
This weekend: Werribee v Coburg - Saturday June 25, 2pm, Avalon Airport Oval

First-year draftee Ryan Clarke continues to produce big numbers in Werribee's midfield, this time gathering 33 possessions and 11 clearances in a 14-point loss to Coburg in the VFL at Avalon on Saturday.

Teammate Jed Anderson got through his second VFL game unscathed after returning from a serious hamstring injury.

No such luck for key forward Aaron Black, who was stretchered off in the first quarter after a big collision in a marking contest, and was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

The Kangaroos later reported Black was "alert and talking".

Other North Melbourne-listed players to do well included youngsters Ed Vickers-Willis and Declan Mountford

Richmond

State league affiliate: Richmond (VFL)
This weekend: Collingwood v Richmond - Sunday June 26, 2.10pm, Victoria Park

Rookie Adam Marcon, who leads the Tigers' possession count this season, continued his consistent run at VFL level with a team-high 27 disposals in his side's 26-point loss.

The yet-to-debut 23-year-old also drifted forward and kicked two goals, including Richmond's first major of the afternoon at the 26-minute mark of the first term.

Fellow midfielder Jason Castagna also hunted the packs and provided plenty of drive through the middle with his 22 touches and eight tackles.

Tall forward Liam McBean was thrown into the ruck at various stages in an attempt to get him into the match, finishing with a third-quarter goal.

Ruckman Ivan Maric was withdrawn from the game and looms as the ideal replacement for Shaun Hampson should he not be fully fit in time for Friday night's away clash against Port Adelaide.

Hampson was injured in the final minutes of Saturday's win over the Brisbane Lions after landing awkwardly on his right knee.

Meanwhile, fellow big man, rookie Mabior Chol, succumbed to a left ankle injury late in the last term and was on crutches post-match with ice strapped around his lower leg.

Two other Saints-listed players to produce accomplished performances were Brodie Murdoch (30 disposals and two goals) and rookie Nick O'Kearney (27 and three).
