THE AFL has come to an agreement to shift any Sydney Swans' home finals next month to the SCG - with one big exception.
If the Swans are to meet Greater Western Sydney in the finals, the match will be played at ANZ Stadium.
"If the finals fixture produces a head-to-head match between the Swans and the Giants, this would possibly be the biggest game in NSW in the history of our sport and we would play that game at ANZ Stadium,” AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said.
As AFL.com.au revealed earlier this week, negotiations intensified in recent weeks, and continued on Friday, as the League and stadium management worked through the terms of the agreement.
Crucial to the deal, as well as a monetary outcome, was the rights of ANZ Stadium members to access tickets to finals at the smaller capacity arena.
"The AFL and Sydney Swans have been event partners of the Stadium since 2002 and it goes to the heart of our 14-year relationship that ANZ Stadium’s valued Members will have the opportunity to attend any Sydney Swans Finals matches scheduled at the SCG," ANZ Stadium chief executive Daryl Kerry said.
The Swans did a deal with the former Olympic venue at the beginning of the season to move their three scheduled home games back to their traditional SCG base.
However, finals had always come under a separate arrangement between the AFL and ANZ Stadium.
"There are also additional benefits for ANZ Stadium members and, of course, ANZ Stadium will host any all-Sydney Final in 2016 featuring the Sydney Swans and GWS Giants.
"This would truly be a great event and a fitting farewell to AFL footy at Sydney’s Olympic stadium, which will soon be redeveloped as a world-class rectangular stadium as part of the NSW Government’s $1.6 billion investment in Sydney sporting infrastructure."
The Swans have played 54 games at ANZ Stadium since 2002, recording 32 wins and 22 losses.
Adam Goodes played 49 times at the former Olympic venue, the most of any player, while Barry Hall tops the stadium's goal kicking table with 87 majors.
