THE STARTER'S pistol is set to fire to launch the NAB AFL Trade Period on Monday and clubs are readying themselves to make early moves.
Free agency is already underway, with Hawthorn making an offer to Richmond forward Ty Vickery, who is a restricted free agent.
AFL.com.au's Trade Winds will provide a round-up of the latest action every morning until the end of the Trade Period on Thursday, October 20.
Premiership Dog still weighing up Freo move
Joel Hamling is reported to be torn between a move home to Fremantle or signing a new contract with the Western Bulldogs and backing himself to play senior football in 2017.
A fringe player before injuries struck this season, Hamling impressed during a marvelous run to the premiership and is seen as a priority by Fremantle, according to The Sunday Times.
The Dockers have reportedly tabled a more lucrative offer than the Dogs for the 23-year-old Broome product, who was originally drafted by Geelong but didn't play a game in his first three seasons.
Tigers and Motlop in talks
Steven Motlop and Richmond this week held talks as the Tigers explored the possibility of bringing the speedster to Punt Road.
According to Channel Seven, there has been limited interested in the 25-year-old after earlier reports in September he had been put on the trade table by the Cats for a first-round draft pick.
Motlop, who played all 24 games this season for the Cats, remains contracted until the end of 2017 when he becomes a free agent.
The Cats are reported to be targeting early draft picks during the trade period after prioritising mature talent 12 months ago.
Sun sets on Barlow and Gold Coast
The Sunday Times reports that Fremantle midfielder Michael Barlow is no longer expected to make his way to Gold Coast.
Barlow had been linked to the Suns as recently as Saturday, with The West Australian reporting that the 28-year-old was "among a host of senior players being discussed as potential targets".
Football manager Marcus Ashcroft had said he "fits the job description" but "more work needs to be done on him around where he might fit within our side".
Barlow is reportedly keen to continue his career elsewhere and is hopeful of receiving a chance at a new club.
Eagles club champion likely to stay
Eric Mackenzie is likely to remain with the club for the final year of his contract, The Sunday Times says.
The 2014 best and fairest winner had been linked in a straight swap with Fremantle for Hayden Ballantyne and is also seen as "in play" by other rivals, according to the report.
However, he is now more likely to try and reignite his career at West Coast where he has stalled after a serious knee injury wiped out his 2015 season.
The Eagles are reported to be happy to take Ballantyne if a fair deal can be struck.
