INJURED Fremantle midfielder Harley Bennell will travel to Germany in December for further treatment on his soft tissue injuries after straining his calf muscle at training last Friday.
While Bennell suffered the injury in his left leg, his right calf plagued him last season.
The 24-year-old has not played a game for the Dockers after being traded from Gold Coast at the end of 2015 in a swap of draft picks.
He will be sent to Munich to work with Dr Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfarht, who has treated 100m world record holder Usain Bolt and also worked with Collingwood defender Ben Reid and former Geelong premiership player Max Rooke.
The Dockers believe Bennell's latest setback will not threaten his availability for 2017.
Fremantle's list manger Brad Lloyd believes Bennell will be right to take the field in 2017.
"I think it’s a slight strain from the information I've been given, we still think he'll be available for round one," Lloyd said on AFL.com.au's NAB AFL Draft Countdown Show.
Lloyd said Bennell had been training strongly until this latest setback.
"He's a monster trainer in the way he goes about it, he trains really hard when he's at the club. He looks to be holding up well and was moving well until this slight setback."
Calf and hamstring issues have meant Bennell has played more than 15 games in a season just once.
Originally drafted at No. 2 in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, he is contracted until the end of 2018.
He has played 81 career matches.
