FORGOTTEN Richmond forward Ben Lennon booted seven goals in a VFL practice match against Footscray at Whitten Oval on Friday night to push his case for a spot in the round one team.
Lennon requested a trade away from the Tigers at the end of last season, but Richmond could not get a deal done for the promising forward.
Four of Lennon’s seven goals came in the final term as the Tigers ran out 92-point victors against last year's premiers.
Lennon started the year well when he kicked four goals in an intraclub match last month but struggled in the first two JLT Community Series matches, picking up a combined 11 disposals and no goals versus Adelaide and Port Adelaide.
Richmond still needs to find a permanent replacement for Tyrone Vickery in its forward line after he departed as a restricted free agent.
Lennon has been trialed in defence and on a wing throughout his career but spent this pre-season training in the forward line.
He played just three games last year after struggling with shoulder surgery, concussion and glandular fever.
In 2015, it seemed as if Lennon was ready to live up to the hype of being selected at No. 12 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft. He lined up in the final eight matches of the home and away season before being surprisingly dropped for Richmond's elimination final loss to North Melbourne.
Tigers VFL coach Craig McRae said a number of Tigers put their name up for senior selection.
"Today was our first opportunity to test the things that we've been doing in pre-season against opposition," McRae said.
"A lot of guys played above their level, which is exciting for AFL opportunities."
Lennon is in the final year of his contract.
