This weekend: Richmond v Essendon - Saturday, May 27, 4pm, Punt Road Oval
Big man Shaun McKernan returned from a hand injury and provided a target in attack, finishing with a goal in the Bombers' 17-point loss.
In his comeback from a groin problem, injury-prone youngster Aaron Francis hobbled from the ground in the final quarter after a heavy tackle.
"Francis got a little bit of a knock – a bit of a corkie – but he was able to return to the field. We expect that he'll be fine and be right to play next week," Bombers performance coach Mark Corrigan told the club's website.
The Bombers have taken a cautious approach with Francis since recruiting him at pick No.6 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft, largely due to the calf and hamstring setbacks he experienced in his debut season.
Midfielder Ben Howlett was the major ball-winner with 36 possessions and two goals, while 203cm rookie ruckman Sam Draper showed his potential by assuming the sole ruck duties after Tom Bellchambers received a senior call-up.
Bad news for us with Francis limping off the ground.
