LACHIE Weller's bombshell trade request has stalled Fremantle's moves to secure Nathan Wilson and Brandon Matera.

But Wilson and Matera's manager Colin Young is confident both players will officially join the Dockers ahead of Thursday's looming NAB AFL Trade Period deadline.

Weller is seeking a switch to Gold Coast after rejecting a four-year contract extension from the Dockers.

The young gun's shock demand has thrown a curveball into negotiations and clouded Suns goalsneak Matera's move to Freo.

Meanwhile, contracted half-back Wilson's bid to get home from Greater Western Sydney, which appeared on track in exchange for a future second-round pick, has also been held up.

"I feel that's a fair deal, a future second for Nathan, (he) again didn't finish in the top 10 (in the club champion) and obviously is not getting paid as a top 10 player," Young told NAB AFL Trade Radio.

"Unfortunately for us Weller has come out from Fremantle and has put a little bit of a change of tack where Gold Coast may be dealing with Fremantle for Matera.

"So I think that's probably holding up the Nathan Wilson trade at the moment, but we're hoping that tomorrow might be a good day for all parties.

"Nathan, we're pretty confident will get done. Brandon, I'm not too sure where it sits with Gold Coast and Fremantle, I'm not sure if they're meeting today.

"But we're still pretty positive those two boys will get done."

Across town, Sharrod Wellingham is treading water until after the Trade Period to find out if he will receive a contract offer from West Coast.

The 29-year-old fell out of favour in the second half of the campaign and only played 13 games, but his experience could be a factor when the Eagles debate a new deal.

"I think with Sharrod all his games that he played this year he played well," Young's counterpart at Corporate Sports Australia, Andrew McDougall, said.

"He played well in finals, he's an experienced player, they're losing a lot of retirees and I think they need a guy like Sharrod for another year or two to stay around and add that professionalism and that older head."

The Eagles, who secured Brendon Ah Chee from Port Adelaide on Tuesday, have been relatively quiet publicly so far during the Trade Period.

Once the player movement period is over Young expected West Coast to come calling to try to lock-down All Australian duo Jeremy McGovern and Elliot Yeo.

Both defensive stars are out of contract at the end of 2018, with McGovern set to become a restricted free agent.

"You'd imagine that after this Trade Period if I was West Coast they'd probably pick up the phone and start chatting, because you don't want to leave the door open too long," Young said.

"We saw what happened with (Jake) Lever this year and there was a fair chance, if you speak to Andrew here about Mitch McGovern, at one stage he was definitely leaving (Adelaide) to go home.

"You've just got to leave the door open a little bit these days and it seems to happen quite quickly in regards to looking for greener pastures."
