UNCONTRACTED Essendon speedster Alex Morgan looks set to part ways with the club after two seasons without playing an AFL game. 

The Bombers already delisted Heath Hocking, Ben Howlett and Craig Bird since the season ended, on top of the retirements of Jobe Watson, Brent Stanton, James Kelly and Yestin Eades. 

AFL.com.au understands North Melbourne has shown interest in recruiting Morgan, who can play down back or through the middle, as a delisted free agent or in one of this year's drafts. 

The rebuilding Kangaroos have openings in both positions and a need for speed, so the link makes sense.

Dashing defender Adam Saad's arrival at Tullamarine will make it even tougher for Morgan to receive a senior opportunity, with pacy Irishman Conor McKenna also solidifying his role across half-back. 

Essendon selected the now 21-year-old with the No.29 pick in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft, after he sat out of TAC Cup ranks in 2014 to play for Forest Hill in the Eastern Football League. 

Morgan returned to the Oakleigh Chargers as an over-age player the following season and impressed so much he earned Vic Metro selection at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

The 182cm athlete's major appeal is his blistering pace, evidenced in a 2.88-second effort in the 20m sprint at the 2015 NAB AFL Draft Combine.

An ongoing hamstring issue spoiled Morgan's first season on an AFL list last year, restricting him to only nine VFL matches and also hampering his start to 2017.

But he went on to play 17 games at that level this year without breaking into the Bombers' senior line-up.
