Nine things we learned from round two
After the siren: When the fortress falls, where to for the Cats?
Around the state leagues: No.1 pick stars in VFL

AFTER many coaches experienced a shocking run of luck last week, there were more smiles on faces after round two delivered higher scores across the board.

It was not all smooth sailing however, with injury having an influence on the scores of some of our popular players such as Brodie Smith, who was knocked out on 111 during the fourth quarter when he looked set for a huge finish.

It was a horrible sense of déjà vu for coaches who also own Luke Parker.

The vests once again reared their ugly heads, causing headaches bigger than Smith's.

Brett Goodes was a prime example after scoring 70 last week and looking like a safe option, only to sit out the majority of the game as substitute for a score of 17.

Adding salt to the wound was impressive scores from popular rookie defenders sitting on the bench, meaning up to an 86-point loss from our total team scores.

Fantasy Pig

It’s all about the Bont, Marcus Bontempelli. If you don’t currently have him, it is in your best interest to work out how to get him in this week.

The fact he has dual position status with forward eligibility is just a bonus, as this tackling machine has the Fantasy world calling the sky the limit. He had 27 touches and 10 tackles (for the second week in a row) to score 133.

Fantasy Prestigacomo

A second sub-par performance in a row has not only put Dayne Beams on the chopping block, he also receives this weeks ‘Presti’ on the back of 49 point from 20 touches, one mark and one tackle. Beams was always going to cop more attention from taggers at the Lions but I thought he would have handled it better than this.

Junior Swine

After a disappointing score last week that caused reactive coaches like me to put Adam Oxley on the bench, he was outstanding, collecting 33 possessions to go with two marks and two tackles for a score of 103. He will have done his job security no harm and looks set to be one of the year’s top cash cows.

I think a lot of coaches are in the same boat mate! We are all looking forward to a week where all our lines can put together good games over the same round. Giving our defenders a second chance looks like it was a good idea, with the like of Jack Newnes bouncing back from 43 last week to score 105.

Although many of our popular selections bounced back to their high scoring ways this week, the same can’t be said for Gary Ablett who again looked under done and his scoring reflected that, finishing on 70. Ablett collected just 23 possessions, but it was once again his mark and tackle statistics that were cause for greatest concern, registering one and two respectively. Is this the end? No, far from but if you are a current owner, it looks like the best option is to offload him and stop the money bleeding. I have no doubt that he will return to his best at some stage this year which will provide us with a bargain pick, likely after the byes.

That’s very rare for a pig to fast from marking. I don’t expect it to continue. Swanny will bounce back next week. Nice stat though mate!

Hey mate, you could probably find David Armitage on the Free Agent list. He had 35 touches and 111 which could be a handy little boost for your midfield.
