LEADING draft prospect Max King will miss the rest of the season after scans on Monday confirmed he tore his anterior cruciate ligament on the weekend.
The possible No.1 pick went down with the injury while playing for Haileybury College on Saturday against Geelong Grammar.
He left the field on a stretcher with fears he had gone down with the season-ending injury which came to fruition on Monday, however clubs are still adamant he will be a top-five pick.
King started his season in brilliant form, booting 8.5 in his first game for the Sandringham Dragons in the TAC Cup before kicking two goals for the NAB AFL Academy in their win over North Melbourne's VFL side earlier this month.
His athleticism, marking strength and skills make him one of the most exciting tall players to come through the draft in recent years.
Despite his injury, clubs expect he will still be in strong contention to be one of the first several names to be called at November's draft with the view he will not miss much of his first AFL season.
Max's twin brother Ben also shapes as a possible top-five pick at the draft and kicked 11 goals in the same Haileybury clash as his brother went down.
