FREMANTLE'S Connor Blakely will consult a surgeon this week after scans revealed he had sustained a hamstring tendon injury set to sideline him for three months or more. 

The 22-year-old, who had been slated to assume midfield responsibility this season from the departing Lachie Neale, suffered the setback in training on Friday.

After scans on Saturday, the Dockers confirmed a high-trade tear with damage to an internal tendon in his right hamstring with an early prognosis of 12-14 weeks.

"Connor will see a surgeon this week to confirm if surgery is required," head of football Peter Bell said.

"At this stage, the medical advice is that Connor will require 12 to 14 weeks to fully recover.

"It's obviously disappointing for both Connor and the football club, but we are confident he will be able to return in the first half of the season and have an impact."

Blakely played the first 13 matches of 2018 in a role predominantly across half-back before a knee injury after the mid-season bye ended his season.
