Incidents assessed:
Contact between Carlton’s Kade Simpson and Sydney Swans’ Will Hayward in the second quarter of the Saturday match was assessed. The ball was kicked towards the wing where Hayward attempted to mark. The ball spilled to the back of the pack, Hayward tracked the ball and was met by Simpson who was running from the opposite direction. It was the view of the MRO that Simpson was contesting the ball and did not have a realistic alternative way to contest the ball. No further action was taken.
Contact between Brisbane Lions’ Hugh McCluggage and Port Adelaide’s Tom Rockliff in the third quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Rockliff was tracking the ball on the half forward flank for Brisbane, before going to ground as he gathered the ball. McCluggage approached from the opposite direction to contest the ball. Rockliff was then pushed by Charlie Cameron into the path of McCluggage. It was the view of the MRO that McCluggage’s actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.
