EMERGING superstar Carlton forward Charlie Curnow looks like he has escaped serious injury after he hurt his knee during the opening quarter of the Blues' round 15 clash against Fremantle on Sunday afternoon.

Curnow went down clutching his right knee following a collision with Fremantle's Ethan Hughes midway through the first quarter of the Optus Stadium contest and was immediately sent to the rooms for observations.

And the initial prognosis was good for the Blues, with head of football Brad Lloyd revealing the forward had suffered a low-grade medial ligament strain.

Caretaker coach David Teague confirmed the early diagnosis, saying the doctors believed it was a 'mild' strain. 

""I don't know what 'mild' means in sense of time frame. He will get scans," Teague said.  

"They think it is mild, they don't know whether it is, but that is the word."

Curnow has been one of the Blues' shining lights this season, with his 18 goals from 10 matches including a haul of seven against the Western Bulldogs earlier this month.
