FREMANTLE is among the clubs showing interest in talented Kangaroo Mason Wood.

AFL.com.au revealed last week that North Melbourne had raised the athletic forward's name in trade discussions with rival clubs.

Sydney made a big play for Wood three years ago, before he committed to stay at Arden St for four more seasons.

The soon-to-be 26-year-old is contracted until the end of 2020, and played a career-high 17 matches this season.

However, the Roos are aware Wood has currency on the open market, with a number of rival clubs still intrigued by his upside.

When asked last week about whether North would consider trading Wood, coach Rhyce Shaw hinted his side would be active in the player movement period.

"Those discussions are ongoing, and I think it's a part of the business now," Shaw said.

"The direction the AFL wants it to go – free agency and player movement – it's going to play a big part, and I reckon it's probably going to be as big this year as it's ever been.

"I'm not going to comment on individual players but I certainly will be open and honest with those that I need to be."

The Dockers look set to lose wingmen Brad Hill and Ed Langdon to Victorian clubs, and Wood's exceptional running power – especially for his 192cm size – means he could help in multiple ways.

Wood would firstly be a complementary piece for Jesse Hogan and Rory Lobb in attack, but may also be able to play some minutes on the wing.

He was dropped last week but was named to face Melbourne at Blundstone Arena on Saturday, in what could be his final match and 57th overall for the club.
