Blockbuster games against big Victorian clubs
Hosting the likes of Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon and Richmond is always guaranteed to attract huge crowds at Adelaide Oval. The Magpies, Bombers and Tigers played in Adelaide against the Crows this year, and the Blues were there in 2018. 

Super Showdown gets Friday night lights treatment
The Crows would be keen to see one of their Showdowns with crosstown rivals Port Adelaide be given the marquee Friday night timeslot to showcase the game on the national free-to-air television stage.

Balance spread of timeslots across the season
The Crows' preference is to host games in a range of timeslots to cater for their supporters. The Sunday twilight timeslot, in which they had two home games this year, is the least preferred option. - Lee Gaskin

More free-to-air games
It's been a struggle in the past decade to get more than a game or two each season screened nationally on free-to-air television, but the Lions are hoping after a successful 2019 – coupled with the fact they're an exciting, high-scoring team – that'll change for 2020. 

Melbourne's big hitters at the Gabba
Collingwood are already locked in for an Easter Thursday blockbuster, but none of Richmond (until the finals), Essendon or Carlton headed north last season. Brisbane would love at least three big Melbourne clubs to visit.

Exposure to the Home of Footy
With its Fitzroy ties, the Lions are contracted to play at least six games in Victoria each season, but rarely are they at the MCG. Losses to Essendon and Richmond were the only visits last season, and with finals now more of an expectation, some more exposure to the ground before September would be ideal. - Michael Whiting

Round one on the cards again
For the 14th straight year, Carlton will hope to play the season opener alongside Richmond on a Thursday evening at the MCG. The two sides have shared hosting duties for the last five years, with the Tigers due to host in 2020.

Take the blockbusters early
Carlton would ideally like its rivalry matches played as early in the season as possible, hopeful of a boost in crowd and membership numbers. It could see the Blues face the Tigers, the Pies and the Bombers in the opening weeks of the season. 

Raise awareness for Carlton Respects
Carlton will once again pull on the orange socks for its annual 'Carlton Respects' match, where the club hopes to promote gender equality for the prevention of violence against women. The Blues have asked for this game to be broadcast in a free-to-air time slot in order to help raise national awareness. - Riley Beveridge

Easter feast in Brisbane
For the next two seasons the Magpies will face Brisbane at the Gabba on Easter Thursday. The challenge won't daunt them, though, given they hammered the Lions by 62 points on Easter Thursday in round five.

Limit the short breaks early
This year the Magpies were stung with three six-day breaks in the opening five rounds against eventual finalists, and they did reasonably well to emerge 3-2. Every club has short turnarounds but spacing them out more, especially early, would be preferable.

A 'G-force run home
The Woods generally play 13 or 14 games at the MCG, including nine as the home team, and this year they played there in four of the last five rounds. Another 'G-focused last month or two would be handy before another likely finals campaign. - Ben Collins

Let the good times roll
Last year saw the Bombers enter the Good Friday sphere against North Melbourne, with Essendon adding to its list of high-profile games. The Bombers beat the Roos convincingly and there was a record fundraising for the Good Friday appeal so the Bombers will want to hold that spot. 

More of the big V at the 'G
Of Essendon's four home games at the MCG last year, two were against interstate sides – Brisbane and Sydney. The Bombers are keen to have more games against Victorian sides in their allotment of home MCG games in a hope to maximise attendances.   

Blockbuster central
Plenty of Essendon's fixture requests revolve around their run of blockbuster games in the early-to-middle part of the season. Good Friday, Anzac Day, the Dreamtime at the 'G clash with Richmond and then the Country game against Geelong means much of their main hopes centre on keeping these games as key contests. Anzac Day falls on a Saturday in 2020 so it will be interesting if the AFL keeps the Collingwood and Essendon clash as a 'standalone' contest without any overlap during the afternoon. - Callum Twomey

 

Len Hall Tribute Game tradition continues
Next year will be the 25th time since 1996 the Dockers have hosted a game during Anzac Round. It's in the honour of Len Hall, Western Australia's last surviving Gallipoli veteran.

Turn on the lights
Having more night matches at home is a priority for the Dockers. They only had four Saturday night games this year, with the rest of their games on Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

Reasonable travel schedule
With their 10 games outside Perth next year, the Dockers want to minimise the amount of trips that require multiple flights, especially if that's preceded or followed by a six-day break. In 2019, the Dockers travelled to Gold Coast, Canberra and Launceston, along with two games in Adelaide and five visits to Melbourne. - Lee Gaskin

Load up in Geelong
The Cats have again asked for 11 home matches in Geelong but are aware it will likely be nine with two at the MCG. It's the Cats' turn to host Hawthorn on Easter Monday, and while the Cats hosted Essendon in the Country Game at the MCG in 2019, both clubs are aware it won't necessarily swap hands year-to-year.

Celebrating Joel and Gaz
Round five could mark respective milestones for club champions Gary Ablett (currently 345 games) and Joel Selwood (295). The Cats have requested a home match in Geelong.

Cash-in with a Victorian blockbuster
After facing Richmond (2017) and Carlton (2018 and 2019) in Geelong in recent seasons, the Cats want to host a high-drawing Melbourne-based team again at GMHBA Stadium. - Mitch Cleary

Twilight at Metricon
After a few years of experimenting, the Suns have found Saturday twilight games (4.35pm) work best in its market. It's a family-friendly timeslot and gives fans time to get to games after a day out. 

Send a big club north during school holidays
Last season Richmond played at Metricon Stadium in the June-July school holidays, and although the Suns were walloped, there was a big crowd with a heavy contingent from the Tiger army. The Suns are hopeful one of Melbourne's premier clubs returns in the same timeslot in 2020. 

Darwin here we come
This is one that's already been granted. The Suns requested Darwin to be included in their Academy zone in a pitch for assistance to the AFL Commission, along with a game for premiership points in the Northern Territory capital. Against who is yet to be determined. - Michael Whiting

Family time
GWS wants home games at Giants Stadium to be played in a family-friendly timeslot, so the Saturday twilight fixture is its No.1 target. It works best for getting kids to the match. 

Beat the chill
The Giants' games in Canberra have been a smash in recent years but their third fixture of the home and away season must be a Saturday daytime slot. During this year's Friday night clash against Hawthorn it snowed, and those sorts of conditions make it tough for fans. 

One Shaw thing of a celebration
Heath Shaw is on track to go past his famous uncle Tony's mark of 313 games in round six, so a clash against Collingwood at Giants Stadium would be a perfect way to do it. - Adam Curley

The tradition continues
Hawthorn and Geelong have met on Easter Monday for the last decade and will hope to do so again in 2020. The game will fall on April 13 next year, with both sides having shared the hosting duties over the last 10 seasons. The Hawks will likely be the visitors next year. 

Drawcard game in Tasmania
Hawthorn will again play four home games in Launceston in 2020 and will ask for at least one of them to be a drawcard fixture against Victorian opposition. It played Carlton down in Tasmania last year, having hosted St Kilda in the three seasons prior to that. 

Seven MCG home games
The Hawks have long requested seven MCG home games, but haven't had that wish granted recently. Last year, they played six at the 'G and one at Marvel Stadium – complementing the four they play in Launceston. Again, expect them to request seven at the MCG in 2020. - Riley Beveridge

Home blockbuster matches
This will be a reality, as Melbourne rotates hosting both Anzac Day eve (with Richmond) and the annual Queen's Birthday match (against Collingwood). The Demons will host both matches in 2020, with Anzac Day eve coming on a Friday night. 

A more equal spread of Sunday matches
While Melbourne only had five matches on a Sunday, four of them happened consecutively through late June and July. The last of the stretch was in Alice Springs. Fans will be keen to avoid a similar stretch in 2020. 

Two or three MCG games to finish the year
Former skipper Nathan Jones is on track to break the all-time games record for the club, if he stays fit and in form. Jones is currently on 286 games, with club legend David Neitz holding the record of 306. - Sarah Black

Good Friday against Essendon
For the fourth year in a row, North Melbourne is set to host Good Friday football. It would again like to do so against a drawcard opponent in Essendon. The two sides got 48,278 to the encounter last season and would like to continue the tradition in 2020. 

A juicy round one clash
North Melbourne has lost nine of its last 10 round one encounters in a dismal record that constantly plagued Brad Scott. It's a record the club would like to put right in 2020. To help do this, the Roos would love a round one clash at Marvel Stadium. 

More joy at Marvel
North Melbourne enjoyed high drawing games at Marvel Stadium last season and would like similar in 2020. It played home games against Essendon, Geelong, Richmond and Hawthorn at the venue last year, as well as being the 'visiting' side for one of Collingwood's home games at the ground. - Riley Beveridge

Chinese adventure leading into first bye of the season
As was the case this year, the Power will have their Shanghai game against St Kilda in round 11. Both teams will have the bye in round 12 to allow them time to recover from the travel.

Anzac Round tradition continues for 21st-straight season
The Power's main priority every year is to host a game in Anzac Round. The club has hosted a game at Adelaide Oval or Football Park since 2000.

Power party time with birthday celebration game
Port Adelaide will wear its original blue-and-white hooped guernsey in a birthday celebration game to be played in July, on a Friday or Saturday night. It's part of the club's 150-year anniversary from its inception in 1870. - Lee Gaskin

Hosting the Grand Final rematch
The Tiger army will be keen to party like it's 2019 all over again if Richmond is drawn to host Greater Western Sydney in the early rounds. They will come out in force, particularly if the presentation of the premiership flag is involved. 

A home game for Trent Cotchin's 250th
It's a tricky one to plot this early. But if all goes to plan, the now two-time premiership skipper will be playing his 250th match in round 16, having 234 games already under his belt. 

A Friday night match against Collingwood
This fixture slot has almost become a tradition, given the big crowds the pair draw. Just under 150,000 people attended the two games between the clubs in 2019, one of which was a very wet affair. The heat from the 2018 preliminary final still lingers. - Sarah Black

Home matches for the Pride Game and Maddie's Match
St Kilda and Sydney have marked their matches over the past four years as a Pride Game, while the yearly fixture against Richmond is used as a fundraiser for the Maddie Riewoldt's Vision foundation. 

A return to Thursday/Friday night footy
The Saints' last Friday night game came in round 21, 2018 against Essendon, one of four round opening fixtures for that year. While the club isn't holding its breath for a Friday night match given its 14th-placed finish, after zero in 2019 it's definitely on the wish list. 

Multiple early home fixtures against the big Melbourne clubs
With new coach Brett Ratten officially locked into the top job, St Kilda will be keen to ride the momentum of a fresh season and a swag of new recruits. What better way to do it than hosting a Collingwood or Essendon, two of the biggest clubs around? - Sarah Black

Captain's big night
Sydney skipper Josh Kennedy will play his 250th game in round four and given the club's rivalry with his old club Hawthorn, a Thursday night clash would pack the SCG. 

Friday night derby lights
The Sydney Derby has taken on some serious heat in recent years, so a clash with the Giants on a Friday night at the SCG early in the season would be a belter. 

Tiger time
The travelling Richmond pack relish a trip north and the young Swans would love a test against the premiers. Make it a Saturday twilight fixture and the SCG would be rocking. - Adam Curley

A familiar beginning
West Coast began its premiership defence this year in Brisbane, and was smacked by the Lions at the Gabba. The Eagles will be keen to start 2020 in more homely surrounds at Optus Stadium in Perth. 

A grand stage for TK
The Eagles will be keen to unveil their star recruit Tim Kelly in round one at home, as we've mentioned above. But facing Geelong in Perth is likely to also be a priority given the crowd that will draw as Kelly faces his old side for the first time. The Eagles gave up plenty to land the star midfielder, so will be keen to make the most of their big-name inclusion. 

Limit the late nights
The Eagles will again ask the AFL to ensure if they travel interstate there are few games as possible at night. West Coast travels two days out from a game, and if games are at night then they can at times struggle to make the airport curfew, so the club hopes to get as many day games on the road as possible. - Callum Twomey

Macrae notches milestone in Ballarat GF rematch
There's not many massive milestones set for the Bulldogs next year, but Jack Macrae looks set to play game 150 in round nine, barring any setbacks. The Dogs generally play a non-Victorian side in Ballarat, so why not make it a 2016 Grand Final rematch against Sydney?

Bruce's round one friends-turned foes foray
Josh Bruce kicking six goals against St Kilda in front of a packed house at Marvel Stadium in round one? There would be no sweeter way to kick off the season for Dogs fans.

Dogs return to Good Friday
Essendon bumped the Western Bulldogs off Good Friday last year to accommodate appropriate rest ahead of Anzac Day, but the calendar is ripe for the Dogs to return to Good Friday in 2020. - Jourdan Canil
